Purpose
This policy sets out our commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all members, volunteers, creatives, and participants involved in Chandeliers Drama Group activities.
Our Values
We celebrate diversity in all its forms—people, creativity, and thought. We are committed to:
- Treating everyone with dignity, fairness, and respect.
- Promoting equality of opportunity and opposing all forms of discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
- Creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative space for artistic expression.
Expected Conduct
All members and participants are expected to:
- Respect others’ boundaries, identities, and lived experiences.
- Behave responsibly, courteously, and professionally in rehearsals and performances.
- Be punctual, engaged, and supportive of one another’s wellbeing.
- Accept casting decisions with good grace and respect the creative team.
- Communicate openly and resolve issues constructively—without blame or shaming.
Respecting Individual Differences
We do not tolerate discrimination based on:
- Age, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, socio-economic background, or any other irrelevant distinction.
- Everyone has the right to feel safe, valued, and empowered to raise concerns without fear of criticism.
Rehearsal & Performance Environment
- Harassment of any kind is unacceptable. If something makes you uncomfortable, you have the right to speak up.
- Physical contact should be consensual and respectful.
- Sexual harassment—including inappropriate comments, communications, or behaviour—is strictly prohibited.
- Serious or repeated breaches will be investigated and may result in sanctions, including termination of membership.
Casting & Representation
- Casting is based on talent and suitability for the role, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Auditions are open and welcoming to all. Where specific characteristics are essential to a role, this will be clearly stated.
- No pre-casting will occur without express permission from the Artistic Director.
Technology & Communication
- Phones should not be used during rehearsals unless previously agreed with the rehearsal lead.
- Humour is encouraged, but “banter” must never come at the expense of others’ comfort or dignity.
Accountability & Review
- The committee is available to support members in resolving concerns.
- This policy will be reviewed every two years, or sooner if needed, in consultation with members.
